Amazing how difficult it is for this age old instruction to take hold, maybe the only way we shall be persuaded to become our brothers keeper, is when we appreciate that our very existence actually depends on our ability to implement this fundamental injunction. The challenge: How to crystalize this realization into the mass consciousness? Maybe brother Rex can offer some pointers? Capitalism will always encourage consumption. Instead of trying to "fix" capitalism by giving it "compassion" we need to find other ways. Many anarchist thinkers like Proudhon and Kropotkin have written about this much more eleqountly than I can, but alternatives are marginalised and beyond the common vision of our society.
