Airliner in Indonesia loses contact on domestic flight



Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry stated the Boeing 737-500 took off from town of Jakarta Saturday and misplaced contact with the management tower shortly after.

A Sriwijaya Air passenger jet carrying 62 individuals misplaced contact with air visitors controllers after taking off from Indonesia’s capital on Saturday on a home flight, officers stated.

Indonesian Transportation Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati stated the Boeing 737-500 took off from Jakarta at about 1:56 p.m. and misplaced contact with the management tower at 2:40 p.m.

“The lacking aircraft is presently underneath investigation and underneath coordination with the Nationwide Search and Rescue Company and the Nationwide Transportation Security Committee,” Irawati stated in an announcement.

An announcement launched by the airline stated the aircraft was on an estimated 90-minute flight from Jakarta to Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan province on Indonesia’s Borneo island. There have been 56 passengers and 6 crew members onboard.

Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago nation, with greater than 260 million individuals, has been affected by transportation accidents on land, sea and air due to overcrowding on ferries, ageing infrastructure and poorly enforced security requirements.
