Akron police searching for suspects after 1 killed in Monday evening shooting

The incident happened in the 1600 block of Brittain Road.

The Akron Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place Monday evening in the 1600 block of Brittain Road. 

According to officials, officers responded to the scene around 5:45 p.m. after numerous calls were made about a shooting. Upon arrival, police officers located an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the homicide unit have opened an investigation and officials tell 3News that the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, and the victim will not be named publicly until next of kin is notified. 

Police believe the incident occurred after an altercation broke out and that the victim was shot by an unidentified suspect who fled the scene.

No additional information is available at this time. 

Police say that the matter remains under investigation at this time.
