Pokémon Legends: Arceus will take place before the storage system of modern Pokémon games, creating an issue for players once the party is full.
Exploring the Sinnoh region could look very different from past games in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as Pokémon fans step back in time to explore the origins of well-known Pokémon game mechanics. Set long before the familiar Sinnoh region of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, players will explore an open-world version of the region and have the opportunity to research Pokémon in their natural habitats. Because of this historical setting, Pokémon storage could look different in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
In the main Pokémon game series, a trainer may only carry six Pokémon in their party at any given time. Pokémon caught after the party is full are sent to a storage PC they may access by interacting with a PC in the Poké Center, or any room with an available computer. In more recent games like Sword and Shield, the PC can be accessed from the Pokémon party’s screen by using the right bumper. However, this won’t be possible in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which takes place long before the PC would be invented.

According to the website for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players will be capturing and researching the Pokémon of the historical Sinnoh region to fill out the very first Pokédex. In past games, a Pokédex entry cannot be completed until the Pokémon species has been caught. The Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will not be digital, but could instead be a research notebook the player fills as they encounter different species. In order to fill in the pages, however, the player may find themselves juggling a large number of Poké Balls fairly quickly.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Could Use Pokémon Farms For Storage
With a vast world to explore, it is possible players will need a home base to return to in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While players can return home in previous main Pokémon games, a player’s bedroom serves little purpose after starting on their journey. However, a homestead in Pokémon Legends: Arceus could serve as a location to store and care for the Pokémon who cannot travel in a player’s party, as well as a place to store extra items and heal the party after battling in the wild. This Pokémon farm could also act as a space to do special research on certain Pokémon species’ behaviors that may not be available while observing them in the wild.
Gameplay could also take a page from the Pokémon animated series, and the Pokémon Professor for the region could potentially keep an eye on extra Pokémon the player captures as Professor Oak does for Ash. It is already known that a Pokémon Professor will be in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and will be bringing starters from the Johto, Unova, and Alola regions. Because of this, the new Pokémon Legends: Arceus Professor may have already discovered a means of caring for extra domesticated partners, and could offer the player a hand in raising their new personal Pokémon herd.
