Miss Virginia 2019 Camille Schrier has been crowned Miss America 2020 on Thursday evening at Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, by Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin.a
Camille Schrier is the new Miss America 2020 while Miss Georgia 2019 Victoria Hill is runner-up in the competition. Schrier, 24, who came out of 51 participants in the competition, is Virginia Commonwealth University student who supports drug safety and a graduate from Virginia tech.
She is a biochemist and she performed a Science Demonstration during the Talent portion at the 2020 Miss America 2.0 Competition at Mohegan Sun on 16th December. She said “Science is a talent and it’s my mission to show kids that science is fun,” at the final event.
Besides the title of Miss America, Schrier will get a scholarship worth $50,000, work with the organization for a year and will get around $250,000 salary for her involvement with the organization, according to the organization representative.
The winner was selected by three judges: Kelly Rowland, “Queer Eye” actor Karamo Brown, and Lauresh Ash from “Superstore,” while Kit Hoover and Mario Lopez hosted the final event. The competition was telecasted live on NBC.
A Miss America doesn’t need only body and beauty but she is some who need to educate, said Schrier when she performed catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide earlier this week. Victoria Hill, 20, who is runner-up for Miss America 2020 sang opera and she wants to encourage more people of America to engage in foster care.
Besides the top two, some other participants also talked about social causes and awareness before the competition. According to People Magazine, Miss Tiffany Seitz told in a report that she was once a cocaine addict and doctors had left the hope for life. She told, she was all alone in the streets with her mother who used to earn money by prostituting. But her life changed after the adoption and 23-year-old came out of all of these. She wants to spread awareness about drug abuse, foster care, and adoption.
She was adopted by a family from Freeport after she spent some time in a foster care agency. While sharing her story, she thanked her parents for changing her life and told how this foster care and proper adoption can change life completely. Her story will definitely inspire other people to do such things to save and change lives.
Last year in June, it was announced by the Miss America Organization that it would get rid of its swimsuit competition to not judge women only by their body appearance but will render more time to know about their smarts, social initiatives and how they want to inspire America.
