Longtime MCU actor Chris Hemsworth makes a funny joke about his other kids after sharing his son wants to be Superman when he grows up.
Chris Hemsworth joked he’s lucky he has two more kids after sharing his son wants to be Superman. The Thor actor has been a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his character’s first solo film came out in 2011. Hemsworth has reprised his role as the God of Thunder in two more Thor movies and all four Avengers films. As of now, Thor’s the only MCU character to receive four solo movies, as Thor: Love and Thunder is nearing the end of filming in Australia. That film is set to release in 2022 as part of Phase 4, though Thor’s future in the MCU beyond that remains a mystery.
Superman is similarly in a period of transition on the big screen. Henry Cavill returned as the DC Extended Universe hero in Zack Snyder’s Justice League this past March, but it’s unclear if Cavill will play Superman again. Warner Bros. is currently working on a new Superman movie which will star a Black actor as the Man of Steel. This is an exciting development for those who enjoy the character and shows the company remains committed to Superman and his important place in DC Comics history.

Hemsworth’s son is certainly a fan of the iconic hero, as the actor revealed in a funny Instagram post. Hemsworth shared a photo of his son wearing a Superman cape, but couldn’t help but joke about being “lucky” he has two more kids. Check out Hemsworth’s post below:
The actor’s joke about his kids plays up the fun MCU vs. DCEU rivalry that has become a major part of the superhero movie genre in the last decade. Like with the comics, many recognize both franchises have their perks, with each offering dynamic characters and storytelling. Hemsworth’s son may love Superman, but it seems likely he has a soft spot for Thor as well, a feeling those who enjoy both the MCU and DCEU can relate to.
It’s also nice to see that the actors and creatives in both franchises don’t take the rivalry too seriously. Many even jump between the two, with Hemsworth’s Thor co-star Idris Elba set to play Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Gunn of course is also known for his Marvel work thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy series. All told, it’s fun for those who like the characters of both the MCU and DCEU to see a prominent Marvel actor like Hemsworth make an amusing joke about Superman.
