Blake Lively is set to star as a secret assassin in Netflix’s adaptation of Dark Horse’s Lady Killer, with Diablo Cody writing the script.
Netflix’s comic book adaptation Lady Killer casts Blake Lively with Diablo Cody writing. Sin City, Hellboy, The Mask and 300 are all examples of big movies adapted over the years from comic books published by Mike Richardson’s Dark Horse Comics. In more recent times, Dark Horse works The Umbrella Academy and Polar have been adapted as streaming titles thanks to the publisher’s deal with Netflix. It was also announced recently that Dark Horse’s Mystery Girl will come to Netflix starring Tiffany Haddish and directed by McG.
Now another Dark Horse title is set to be adapted under the publisher’s deal with Netflix. As reported by Deadline, Lively is set to star in Lady Killer, based on the comic book of the same name. Oscar-winning Juno and Jennifer’s Body writer Cody will pen the script. Written by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, Lady Killer concerns a seemingly normal 1950s housewife named Josie Schuller who lives a double life as a highly-trained assassin.
Lady Killer indeed is another dark outing for Lively, whose last two films were the revenge thriller The Rhythm Section and the black comedy A Simple Favor. Cody too can occasionally go dark, as demonstrated by her subversive horror film Jennifer’s Body, though she’s generally known for less heavy fare like the Oscar-winning Juno and the more recent Charlize Theron harried mom comedy Tully. Lady Killer indeed goes down a dark road with its depiction of a suburban housewife who doubles as an assassin, but it’s also known for its humor, which makes it a perfect title for Cody to sink her teeth into.
