Deadly crash between Amish buggy and truck in Medina County

MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities say a juvenile who was operating an Amish buggy has died following a crash Thursday morning in Medina County’s Homer Township.

The incident happened at 7:13 a.m. on Route 31 near U.S. 224. Authorities say a 2013 Ford F-150 was northbound on Route 31 “when it struck the Amish horse and buggy in the rear.”

The juvenile from Homerville who was operating the buggy was later pronounced dead at an Akron hospital. Authorities have not released the victim’s age.

When troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol first arrived on scene, they located the truck with “moderate damage” and the buggy with “disabling damage.”

“At this time, alcohol does appear to be a factor in this crash,” authorities said in a press release early Friday morning. “The crash remains under investigation.”

The truck’s driver has been identified as a man from Mansfield.

No additional details were immediately available, but we will update this story if new information is released.
