Amidst the Black Lives Matter motion this summer time, actress Jenny Slate introduced that she would now not be voicing the biracial character Missy Foreman-Greenwald.
“Firstly of the present, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play ‘Missy’ as a result of her mother is Jewish and white — as am I,” the 38-year-old wrote on Instagram in June. “However ‘Missy’ can be Black, and Black characters on an animated present needs to be performed by Black individuals.”
Nick acknowledged that the change in casting wanted to be made. “We had been already scuffling with how you can inform Missy’s tales with Jenny within the position as we dug extra into her racial identification,” The League alum defined to Vulture. So he turned to Ayo Edebiri, who had been tapped as a author for Season 5.
“It’s a present that’s at all times made me snicker,” Ayo instructed the Los Angeles Occasions when requested about her new gig. “Getting the writing job felt like a dream come true by itself. Being given the chance to voice a personality on the present has solely heightened that feeling.”
