Every Sonic Crossover Announced At SEGA’s Sonic Central

Sonic the Hedgehog is turning 30 this year. To celebrate, SEGA’s mascot is making a few cameos in other video games, as revealed at Sonic Central.

In honor of Sonic the Hedgehog‘s 30th anniversary, SEGA hosted its first Sonic Central event, a livestream similar to a Nintendo Direct but all about the iconic blue hedgehog. Featuring announcements about everything from new merchandise to a mysterious 2022 Sonic video game, Sonic Central was full of surprises for fans of the series, including three crossovers.

Sonic is no stranger to crossovers and has a history of teaming up with other iconic video game characters, such as Mega Man and, most famously, Mario. During the presentation, one SEGA representative said fans can look out for more announcements throughout the year, so it’s possible there will be even more crossovers beyond the three announced so far.

In the meantime, Sonic will be getting crossovers with Two Point HospitalOlympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game, and Lost Judgement. A 2018 simulation game, Two Point Hospital is centered around building and running a hospital and has a lighthearted, comedic tone, including goofy illnesses for players to cure.

Starting June 30, players will get undergo Two Point Hospital’s construction and management while their workers are dressed in somewhat off-putting Sonic the Hedgehog costumes. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose outfits are available, along with some Sonic-themed decor. While a bit of a strange crossover, it’s sure to provide a laugh for fans of both franchises.

Non-Sonic Games Getting Crossovers Soon

The official Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 video game (not to be confused with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020) will let players compete in various sports included in the actual Olympic Games, all while dressed as Sonic. This will allow Sonic to show off his Olympic athleticism in a more hyperrealistic depiction than his usual, cartoony self when the game launches on June 22.

Finally, Lost Judgement, the sequel to 2018’s Judgement launching on September 21, will feature a fully playable version of Sonic the Fighters. Known as Sonic Championship outside of Japan, the 1996 fighting game will be playable in Lost Judgement‘s in-game arcades.

While these crossovers might not be the most impressive announcements to come out of the Sonic Central event, it’s still nice to see Sonic get more of the spotlight in 2021. The livestream also included a number of Sonic game announcements, like a Sonic Colors remaster and a new collection of classic Sonic games for modern systems.
