Captain Jeff Hathaway, together with crew members, have been 150 miles from St. George Island Alaska fishing on the F/V Vacation spot, a 98-foot crab boat.
On Feb. 11, the U.S. Coast Guard acquired alerts from an automated emergency locator beacon. Upon arrival on the scene, the Coast Guard recognized the EPIRB belonging to Vacation spot. Particles was recovered together with a life ring, buoys, tarps, and an oil sheen was seen on the water.
In keeping with Anchorage Every day Information, “Hathaway, 60, was probably the most savvy, skilled skippers of his technology. He nimbly made the transition from a fiercely aggressive race for the crab to a brand new period that started in 2005, when every boat was assigned a share of the full Alaska harvest.”
