HBO Max has unveiled the first trailer for its forthcoming Gossip Girl reboot, revealing it will premiere on the streaming platform in July. Acting as both a sequel and soft reboot of the hit CW series, the story will center on a new group of Manhattan private schoolers as they take the lead under the titular watchful eye. It will also explore how much social media and the social landscape of New York City has changed in the decade since the original series’ conclusion.
Development on the revival began in mid-2019 when WarnerMedia elected to pick it up straight-to-series for a 10-episode season. Though introducing a new group of characters to the story, the project will act as a sequel to the CW drama and will see Kristen Bell reprising her role as narrator of the drama. Executive producer and showrunner Joshua Safran has teased the possibility of characters from the past returning and being referred to and describing the revival as a shared universe akin to that of Marvel.
Some five months after production on the revival concluded, HBO Max has shared the first teaser for Gossip Girl and revealed a July 8 release date for the sequel series. The teaser also offers a glimpse at the glitzy world of its Manhattan socialites, new cast of characters, and Bell’s all-seeing narrator. Check out the teaser below:
