More than three million people in the state are now fully vaccinated against the virus.
CLEVELAND — Each day there’s a new announcement that depicts the total number of coronavirus cases in Ohio. But what do those numbers really mean?
We’re tracking the data every day to see how coronavirus cases are fluctuating as more businesses get back to work. Federal guidelines suggest a true downward trend consists of 14 consecutive days with fewer cases.
So how is Ohio doing? Here is the latest data:
- CONFIRMED AND PROBABLE CASES IN OHIO: 1,075,999 total to date
- CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH FEWER NEW CASES REPORTED: 0
- April 30: 1,541 new cases, a decrease of 245
- May 1: 1,707 new cases, an increase of 166
- May 2: 985 new cases, a decrease of 722
- May 3: 995 new cases, an increase of 10
- NEW CASES PER 100,000 OHIOANS DURING LAST 2 WEEKS: 147.9
- A decrease from the previous week; once this number reaches 50 or lower (updated every Thursday), all of the state’s existing health orders will expire
- 7-DAY AVERAGE TESTING POSITIVITY RATE: 3.8%
- Still well below the CDC’s recommended threshold of 5%; the latest known daily figure was 3.4%
- CONFIRMED AND PROBABLE NUMBER OF DEATHS: 19,284
- NUMBER OF HOSPITALIZATIONS: 56,642
- 89 new hospitalizations reported in the last 24 hours.

- A decrease of 40 known active hospitalizations in the last 24 hours
- NUMBER OF ICU ADMISSIONS: 7,836

- NUMBER OF PATIENTS CURRENTLY IN ICU: 322
- An increase of 2 known active ICU cases in the last 24 hours
- TOTAL STATEWIDE HOSPITAL BED OCCUPANCY: 68.64%
- NUMBER OF OHIOANS FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19: 3,865,403
- An increase of 9,147 people in the last 24 hours
- PERCENTAGE OF OHIOANS FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19: 33.07%
- Experts estimate a rate of 70%-85% is needed to achieve effective herd immunity
The following Northeast Ohio counties are currently under at least a Level 3 “red” alert as far as risk for COVID-19, indicating “very high exposure and spread”:

- Cuyahoga
- Erie
- Geauga
- Huron
- Lake
- Lorain
- Mahoning
- Medina
- Portage
- Richland
- Stark
- Summit
- Trumbull
All other local counties are at Level 2 “orange.”

- There are now 15,963 confirmed and probable cases with 728 deaths.
- There are now 15,587 confirmed and probable cases with 711 deaths.
- There are now 14,694 confirmed and probable cases with 656 deaths.
- There are now 11,602 confirmed and probable cases with 471 deaths.
- There are now 10,222 confirmed and probable cases with 451 deaths.

- Ohio now has 7,791 confirmed and probable cases with 361 deaths.
- The state has 6,975 confirmed cases with 274 deaths.
- Gov. DeWine limits liquor store sales to only Ohioans in several counties.
- The number has grown to 6,604 cases with 253 deaths.
- The number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio rose above 5,800, & Gov. DeWine says the state is now following new CDC guidelines for what should count as a positive test; this will increase the number of cases.
- Ohio’s cases rise to 5,148 with 193 deaths.
- 4,782 confirmed cases with 167 deaths.
