How to Find Legendary Volcarona in Pokémon Snap

Pokemon Snap Legendary Volcarona

Volcarona is the Illumina Spot course boss of the Fireflow Volcano, part of Sweltering Sands. To capture a photo of one, players will use fluffruit.

Each of the six major areas in New Pokémon Snap contains a sort of final boss for players to photograph, called an Illumina Pokémon. Illumina Pokémon are the signature Pokémon for an area in New Pokémon Snap, and getting a good picture of each of these will require a fair bit of extra work. Each Illumina Pokémon in New Pokémon Snap can be found on a unique course that players must unlock. Once players reach these Illumina Pokémon, they will need to throw Illumina Orbs to get the Pokémon’s Illumina patterns to become visible. Before they can do this, however, they will often need to get the Pokémon to come out of hiding. Volcarona is one of the trickier Illumina Pokémon to photograph in New Pokémon Snap because it can shield itself with a wall of fire that players must break through to take a good photo.

Volcarona is located in the Fireflow Volcano on Voluca Island, a separate level accessible via Sweltering Sands. To reach it, players will need to get Sweltering Sands’ Day and Night courses to Research Level 2. There are two Volcarona in the Illumina Spot for players to photograph. Here’s how to find and photograph Volcarona in New Pokémon Snap.

Find Volcarona in Fireflow Volcano in New Pokémon Snap

To reach Fireflow Volcano and find Volcarona in New Pokémon Snap, players will need to raise the research level of the Sweltering Sands courses on Voluca Island. Both Sweltering Sands (Day) and Sweltering Sands (Night) must be raised to Research Level 2 to unlock Fireflow Volcano. Then, players will need to run the Fireflow Volcano course and raise it to Research Level 2 as well.

Players can go through Fireflow Volcano again once they have reached Research Level 2, and this time, they will notice a new route to their right at the end of the course, as the route they took the first time will be blocked by a massive Tyrantrum. Players will know they have found the right place if they enter a tunnel and see flowing blue lava.

At the end of the course, players will see some Ancient Ruins and an archway. They will receive a notification to scan the Ancient Ruins. They should also snap a photo with the research camera, which will open the passage behind the arch and allow them inside to the Illumina Spot where Volcarona waits.

The two Volcarona will shield themselves with walls of fire. Players will need to hit the shield with Fluffruit about three times to completely break through it. Once the shield is down, players need to hit Volcarona with a green Illumina Orb to activate its Illumina State and snap their photograph. As with other Illumina Spots in New Pokémon Snap, players can enter this Illumina Spot at higher levels to get better, higher-score photographs of Volcarona later.
