GTA 6 remains unconfirmed, but a supposed map leak has fans excited. Rockstar hasn’t commented, and it’s hard to say whether it’s real.
Grand Theft Auto 6 has once again come under the spotlight due to a potential leak. Though even the game’s development is yet unconfirmed, another supposed GTA 6 map image, recently dropped onto internet hub 4chan, has the rumor mill churning once again. But can any of the GTA 6 map rumors be trusted?
Rockstar has been dead silent about GTA 6. While the game is all but certainly in production, how far it’s come – especially with Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online having taken up development time – is a matter of speculation. A steady stream of supposed GTA 6 leaks has sprung from several sources, all leading to further confusion about virtually every aspect of the game: Will it have a playable female protagonist for the first time, have a bigger or smaller map than GTA 5, be set in Florida or the American Midwest, or be released in 2025?

Some of this information has come from more reputable sources than others. Among the most hotly contested are the GTA 6 map fragments originally released anonymously on 4chan. As with anything from 4chan, these should be taken with a grain of salt.
Rockstar Hasn’t Commented On Leaked GTA 6 Maps
Even if the maps turn out to be real, without further context, they don’t reveal much about what GTA 6 might actually be like. According to fan calculations, the supposed GTA 6 leaks appear to show a map similar in size to GTA 5’s. Still, the map fragments are low res and don’t offer a lot of context; it’s entirely possible that, with the eight-year gap between GTA 5 and now (to say nothing of the two new console generations ushered in since then), Rockstar might be looking to do something larger in scale than what was possible on PS3. The “leaked” map could be part of a much larger overall space, or there could be several disconnected settings players bounce between.
Given that Rockstar hasn’t commented on most GTA 6 leaks, leaving only minutiae like potentially meaningless Rockstar website updates as clues, confirmation doesn’t seem likely any time soon. The maps themselves are relatively unhelpful, so it’s probably best to assume they’re fake.
Either way, it’s all speculation until there’s something more solid to go on. E3 2021 is coming soon, and Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has confirmed its participation, so it may be that more official information will be available before long. Whether that will simply be new reveals about the coming next-gen version of GTA 5 or an announcement about the perpetually unconfirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 remains to be seen.
