‘It’s going to be doing a lot of good for the community. Not only the transgender community, but the community at large.’

CLEVELAND — It’s been a long time coming. A clothing store specifically designed for those in the transgender, non-binary and gender-expansive communities. Now that it’s here, many are excited about the new storefront.

“It’s about time,” said Bobbi Ullinger, a customer at the store. “It’s going to be doing a lot of good for the community. Not only the transgender community, but the community at large.”

Margie’s Closet sits on the border of Cleveland and Lakewood on West 117th Street.

“I’m just excited because this is the first of its kind — at least that we know of — in Ohio,” said Jacob Nash, co-founder of Margie’s Closet.

Nash started Margie’s Closet to not only live out his truth but to help others, too.

“People need a place where they can come feel safe walking in the door knowing that they’re not going to be judged.”

From dresses to jeans, to shoes and ties — the store has it all.

“The fact that we are able to have hands in it, it makes us feel like we’re giving back to our community,” said Monika Veliz, vice president of Margie’s Hope. “We’re not just existing. We’re helping.”
