Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town Maker Machines aren’t effective at processing goods, and a future update promises to improve mechanics.
Farming has taken a frustrating turn in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, the newest installment of the Story of Seasons farming simulation game series. Like past games, players collect various resources through farming, mining, raising livestock, and foraging wild areas. These goods can be processed in the game’s Maker Machines, which can, in turn, be sold or used for crafting. However, changes made in Pioneers of Olive Town have turned Maker Machines into a punishingly slow resource grind, bogging down overall gameplay. Thankfully, the developer has announced a patch will release to improve the problem.

Currently, there are 22 different Maker Machines in Pioneers of Olive Town. Players can place up to 20 of each kind on their farms. Makers require between 1 and 5 raw materials to create up to 3 processed goods depending on the machines. Processing the raw materials can take a few in-game hours, or even a few days, which can be a major setback to gameplay. This issue is especially difficult if a player needs a large number of processed goods for a crafting project like a home upgrade or farm building repair.
In past Story of Seasons games, using a variety of Maker Machines, the Makers could be set to process multiple stacks of raw materials at a time. The wait time for a finished product wasn’t very long, so players could set their Story of Seasons Makers before going to bed, and collect a stack of finished goods the following morning. The only way to have decent turnover times in Pioneers of Olive Town is to place as many Makers as possible, which can take up a massive amount of space that could instead be used for farming or livestock buildings.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town Will Get A Maker Update
According to an update log released by XSEED Games following the 1.0.4 update on April 5, 2021, a 1.0.5 update is currently in the works and is focused on redesigning the Maker Machines to make them less cumbersome. The update will also adjust the time it takes to cook food in the player’s home, improve animations during eating, and resolve the issue where players must press “A” to move from inside to outside. Each of these changes would streamline the playability of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, and specifically improve late-game time-management throughout each day.
Despite the need for many of the changes listed in the upcoming 1.0.5 log, the update for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town has yet to receive a firm launch date. The game has been out for two months, and DLC has already started releasing through the Pioneers of Olive Town Expansion Pass. However, many may find engaging in further content for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town difficult without the fixes to improve overall gameplay. Hopefully, the update will release soon, and Maker Machines will become an asset to players, instead of a hindrance.
