Who stars in The Many Saints of Newark, and when will it release? Directed by Alan Taylor, the highly-anticipated 2021 movie is a prequel to David Chase’s HBO series The Sopranos. New Line Cinema greenlit The Many Saints of Newark in March 2018, a full 11 years after The Sopranos’ cryptic series finale. From 1999 to 2007, the HBO series explored the dynamics of Tony Sopranos’ personal and professional life, most notably his on-going conversations with therapist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco). The seventh and final season heavily deconstructs Tony’s mindset, and concludes with a cut to black that will forever spark debates about the fate of Gandolfini’s character.
