Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s 42GB download size has been revealed, alongside news that fans can begin preloading on Friday, June 4.
Word from PlayStation Game Size suggests Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart‘s file size will weigh a touch over 42GB; plus, those who preorder the title can begin preloading on June 4. This noteworthy news comes just one day after developer Insomniac Games announced that Rift Apart has officially gone gold. As such, the latest Ratchet and Clank-starring adventure is ready to be manufactured, packaged, and shipped to stores around the globe.
While the two titular characters are confirmed to return, Insomniac has introduced a new playable hero in the form of Rivet – a female Lombax who comes from a world ruled by Emperor Nefarious. The discovery of another Lombax and the franchise’s longtime villain taking up a real position of power don’t constitute the only major changes. Rift Tears debut in this entry as well, using the power of the PlayStation 5’s SSD to take players from one dimension to another at lightning speeds.

As reported by Twitter user PlayStation Game Size, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will boast a download size of more than 42GB. The account also reveals that, similar to Returnal and a few other PlayStation exclusives, Rift Apart’s preload is scheduled to go live one week ahead of launch. Thus, players who preorder can begin downloading and installing the new game as early as Friday, June 4. It is worth noting, however, that the 42GB figure does not take into account a potential day one patch.
Insomniac seems to have mastered the art of the relatively small download size. As some may recall, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 clocked in at over 51GB; meanwhile, the PS5 version only required up to about 39GB of free space. It’ll be interesting to see if game sizes become even more compressed as this new console generation rolls on.
The crew at Insomniac has been incredibly busy of late, preparing two major titles for the PlayStation 5 launch window. Taking that into consideration, some time could pass before the team shows off its next project. A sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is expected to be said project, of course, though publicly available details are currently nonexistent. Whatever else the studio may have up its sleeve will undoubtedly create much excitement.
