Netflix has revealed that Hwang Dong-global hyuk’s hit thriller series Squid Game has become the streaming service’s most popular original series of all time. In the first 28 days after its September 17 premiere, more than 111 million Netflix households watched Squid Game.
This series has already surpassed the 82 million viewers achieved by Regency-era London romantic drama Bridgerton in January. That is how it becomes the first Netflix series to accomplish so in the first four weeks. Viewing any episode for two minutes is counted as one view on Netflix.

We don’t yet have that information for this series. Other than the 111 million Netflix subscribers, the South Korean series debuted at #1 on Netflix’s daily “Top 10” lists in 90 countries. Bridgerton had already done so in 83 different markets.
The fact that contributes to the same is that Squid Game is available on Netflix with subtitles. Also, it dubs in over 30 languages, allowing it to reach areas where it could not otherwise get seen. Squid Game isn’t the first, but it is the most popular.
Before Squid Game, Netflix’s biggest non-English-language original hit was Lupin. It is a French mystery thriller starring Omar Sy. That series drew 76 million viewers in the first 28 days after its January release.
