Suspect dead following car chase in Cleveland

Suspect dies following police chase in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — A 25-year-old man is dead after a car chase involving police ended in a crash Wednesday night on Cleveland’s east side.

Authorities say officers “were conducting a violent crime interdiction” near East 93rd Street and Dickens Avenue when the suspect rammed his vehicle into one of the police cruisers before fleeing. Following what was described as a “short pursuit,” the suspect’s car hit a pole and flipped over near East 111th Street and Forest Avenue.

According to officials, a gunshot was fired inside the vehicle, and EMS crews say the suspect died from a possible gunshot wound to the head. The police department denies any of its officers used any type of force.

In addition to the deceased individual, the Cleveland Division of Fire tells 3News a 65-year-old man was also inside the car. He refused any medical treatment at the scene.

The Cleveland Division of Police says it is investigating the incident.
