The Happy Dog to reopen on June 25 after 15-month closure

CLEVELAND — Editor’s note: the video in the player above is from a previous story.

After being closed for more than 15 months as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, The Happy Dog at West 58th and Detroit Avenue will reopen on June 25, Cleveland City Councilmember Jenny Spencer announced on Thursday.

“Word will get out fast, but I’m thrilled to share some good Ward 15 news,” Spencer tweeted. “After being shuttered for more than 15 months, The Happy Dog at West 58th and Detroit Avenue will reopen June 25th!”

Spencer went on to praise the bar and restaurant’s owner, Sean Watterson, who she said played a key role in getting COVID-19 relief for small businesses past amid the pandemic.

“Congratulations to longtime leader and owner @TheRealSTony, whose advocacy was instrumental during the pandemic in getting COVID relief for small venues through @SBAgov’s Shuttered Venue Operators Grant,” she wrote.

Since opening in 2008, Happy Dog has become one of Cleveland’s most popular watering holes and is self-described as “Cleveland’s neighborhood corner bar.” In addition to its vast beer selection, Happy Dog is known for its hosting of live music and of course, its hot dogs, which feature unique toppings including cereal such as Fruit Loops.
