What is the water quality for Edgewater, Villa Angela Beaches?

Water quality predicted to be poor Friday at some Lake Erie beaches

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — If you were planning a beach day Friday at either Edgewater Beach or Villa Angela Beach, you may want to make other plans.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is reporting, predicted water quality at both beaches is expected to be poor due to E. coli concentration in the lake water.

The predicted E. coli concentration for Edgewater Beach Friday is 169 MPN/100mL. The percent exceedance probability is 77.5%.

At Villa Angela, the predicted E. coli concentration is expected to be 1091 MPN/100mL, and the percent exceedance probability is 95.5%.

NEORSD uses modeling results generated by Virtual Beach 3.0, which is a computer software program. The software tends to underestimate the E. coli concentration in the water, so NEORSD also incorporates data it collected in previous years. So when the predicted E. coli concentration generated by Virtual Beach 3.0 goes above these thresholds, the actual E. coli concentration is expected to exceed the Bathing Water Recreational Criteria of 235 MPN/100mL.

NEORSD updates the water quality predictions daily. For that information, you can follow them on Twitter @NEORSDbeaches, or you can view the daily reports HERE.
